This treatment involves delivering to the patient a dental prosthesis to replace the missing teeth, soft tissue, and bone structure. Candidates have either lost all their teeth, or are in the process of losing them. Complete dentures can be custom made to fit a single arch or both arches of the mouth.
Complete dentures can be either “conventional” or “immediate.” Made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal, a conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about eight weeks after the teeth have been removed.
Unlike conventional dentures, immediate dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed. As a result, the wearer does not have to be without teeth during the healing period. Following the healing period, a new denture will be fabricated.
Complete dentures by themselves can lead to progressive bone loss, hence the loss of retention over time. To provide solid support for dentures, implants are recommended to stimulate the surrounding bone, and provide patient comfort.
IMPLANT OVER-DENTURE: Adjunct treatment for the full or partial edentulous patient
What is an Implant Overdenture?
An implant over-denture fits over your own remaining natural teeth roots or dental implants that have been installed by your dentist. The retained root or implant provides you with excellent stability and support for your denture implants.
How are implant over-dentures or denture implants different from regular dentures?
Unlike traditional dentures, root-supported or implant-supported over-dentures or implant dentures are held in place by dental attachments which provide the retentive strength that you desire. An attachment retained implant over-denture provides a greater degree of functionality for the edentulous patient.
What are the benefits of implant overdentures or implant dentures?
- Having dental implants placed will preserve bone and will dramatically reduce bone resorption and deterioration that results in loss of jawbone height.
- Implant over-dentures will control facial contour changes that lead to premature wrinkles and aging.
- Implant over-dentures will allow you to chew your food better and speak more clearly. Studies have proven that over-dentures contribute to improved chewing efficiency and phonetics.
- Loose dentures that cause embarrassment will be eliminated. Messy denture creams and adhesives are no longer needed with denture implants.
CONVENTIONAL PARTIAL DENTURES AND PRECISION ATTACHMENT DENTURES
A detachable dental prosthesis used for the replacement of the certain missing teeth. These dentures are custom made to your natural gum color and can be made of solid construction or of that of a semi-flexible design for more comfort. Precision attachment partial dentures incorporate a locking mechanism, allowing the denture to hold in place securely and provide better support for the denture.
